Chez Claudette, good food, hotdogs, fries and plentiful poutine, the smoked meat poutine too much for lunch. Good value for the price, with our visitors from TO, been at Chez Claudette, three times in eight days!

There is no gold standard for a casse croute as they are as varied as the car collections of the rich and famous. For one the thrill of a Mercedes sports sedan is good for what ails them while another wouldn’t be caught dead in anything other than boxy Land Rover, stumping happily over road kill rather than swerve. The poutine is heavy on the sauce and well portioned with real grains de fromage, which is a telling sign for this habitual grease monkey. The hot dogs are served toasted unless you ask otherwise which is a balm for the soul as those sorts of things are for baseball games and children’s party’s. The Bug Nat burger is a delicious play in the Big Mac and is highly reccomend. Their breakfast is familiar honest fare with dutiful fruit serving to colour the plate but the most important thing about this joint is the people. I love them all. You feel like you’ve been living in this town your whole life and are welcome here which warms the heart and rock the roll. I’ve never ordered the hamburger steak but one day I will.

Returning from visiting a house nearby, we stopped here, and were pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the lunch special, fillet of chicken, pepper steak and 2 others. Included was a great home made chicken noodle soup, with roll and crackers, real mashed potatoes and tossed crispy lettuce salad, with thinly grated carrot vinaigrette. The fries were nicely browned, not too crispy and fresh. The pepper sauce? v. good with a reasonable portion of steak done my way- medium-rare, all accompanied by a carafe of fresh tea, with one of six choices for dessert, all for 15.95. The cake was moist. My companion had the lemon pie, also good. A friendly group of snowmobilers were next table, and the place was 2/3 full at lunchtime (Monday). We'll definitely be going again when visiting the area. PS. I even visited the local machine shop advertised on the menu, and may make a 20,000 sale, as a result. Now THAT is a good 'meal deal'
